UK national Thalha Jubair (19, aka “EarthtoStar/Brad”) is accused of participating in the “Scattered Spider” cyber-extortion group (aka “Octo Tempest”/UNC3944) that hit at least 120 organizations (~47 in the U.S.) and extorted ~$115 million in ransom. The gang breached companies – including critical infrastructure and even the U.S. court system – via social engineering, data theft and ransomware. A lengthy FBI investigation with UK and European partners unmasked Jubair. His arrest in the UK (for a separate but related UK case) demonstrated strong US–UK coordination.
