Armenian Man Pleads Guilty to Ryuk Ransomware Charges in US

Karen Serobovich Vardanyan, an Armenian national, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and computer fraud in the US. Vardanyan was charged with illegally accessing the computers of various US organizations to install Ryuk ransomware. He and his alleged co-conspirators were paid approximately 1,610 bitcoins in ransom payments from the victim companies, which was valued at over $15 million at the time of payment. He will be sentenced on Sept. 22. 2026.
