Virtual Routes: No longer (just) virtual!

James Shires at the new Virtual Routes London office

We are excited to announce that in 2026 Virtual Routes will be taking another big step: moving into a new office space in London.

Our new home will be a two-floor warehouse conversion on a historic street in the Shoreditch/Old Street area, close to Barbican and Old Street stations. The space combines practical functionality with a calm, well-designed environment. It includes flexible work and event areas and meeting spaces suited for both small discussions and larger group sessions. The design emphasizes natural materials and thoughtful lighting, creating a setting that supports focused work and constructive exchange.

This new physical location will enable our team to collaborate more frequently in person and provide a dedicated setting to host a wide range of in-person and hybrid events, roundtables, workshops, training sessions, lectures, and receptions.

London is an ideal location for this next step, enabling us to expand our convening of impactful research and policy dialogues and continue to bring together academic, industry and policy communities on cybersecurity and emerging technologies. For a UK-based organization with a European outlook, London offers close connections to major European hubs as well as good global links.

In moving into this new space, Virtual Routes is building on our record of successful London-based events – from roundtables on cyber operations in Ukraine to last year’s highlight of Binding Hook Live in a cabaret theatre in Soho, with a fellowship field trip and much more besides. We will also draw on our experiences hosting large-scale events in Paris, Brussels, Malaga, and other locations across Europe.

Across research, education, and public engagement, this permanent space will help us to expand our reach, scale up our activities and develop new formats for collaboration and exchange.

We will be preparing and gradually fitting out the space in the coming months, so keep an eye out for updates. And, of course, sign up to our newsletter to receive regular updates on the office and our wider activities.
