Botnet operator linked to ransomware attacks sentenced in US

Event Details

Russian national Ilya Angelov was sentenced after pleading guilty to managing a botnet as co-leader of a cybercrime group known as Mario Kart. The botnet was used to deploy ransomware attacks, including BitPaymer ransomware. This group was also known under the names TA-551, Shathak, Gold Cabin and Monster Libra. He received two years in prison and was fined $100,000.
