Ireland extradited Ukrainian national Oleksii Lytvynenko to the U.S. in late Oct 2025 to face charges for his role in the Conti ransomware gang. Lytvynenko (indicted in 2023) allegedly helped deploy Conti ransomware on global victims and was arrested in Ireland in 2023; after a year of legal proceedings, he was surrendered to U.S. custody. He pleaded not guilty and faces up to 25 years if convicted, underscoring international resolve to prosecute major ransomware actors.
