The Role:

Virtual Routes is seeking a Senior Researcher to join our team and contribute to groundbreaking projects at the intersection of cybersecurity, emerging technologies, and multilateralism. This position offers a unique opportunity to lead research that informs global policy, particularly within the EU’s efforts to navigate the challenges of declining multilateralism, especially in technology.

Among other tasks, you will help lead Virtual Routes’ activities related to the REMIT project. REMIT (Reignite Multilateralism via Technology) focuses on understanding the complex dynamics of digital, biotechnology, security and defense, and financial technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and contribute to research projects focused on cybersecurity and emerging technologies.
  • Analyze the impact of technology on multilateralism, particularly the EU’s role in digital, security, biotechnology, and financial technology sectors.
  • Help lead Virtual Routes’ REMIT activities, contributing to stakeholder and program management, research, policy development, and strategy recommendations.
  • Collaborate with academic, industry, and policy experts to produce reports and policy briefs.
  • Engage with EU officials and other key stakeholders in scenario testing workshops to develop actionable policy recommendations.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Experience: Strong research experience in cybersecurity, emerging technologies, or related fields, with a focus on policy analysis.
  • Education: A PhD is recommended; a strong academic background in cybersecurity, technology, international relations, or a related discipline.
  • Skills: Strong analytical, research, and writing skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attributes: Interest in multilateralism and global policy, especially within the context of EU tech and national security challenges.
