Community organizations are often overlooked as potential targets, yet the data they hold, the trust they’ve built, and the networks they operate within make them attractive targets for fraudsters. Most successful attacks don’t begin with sophisticated hacking, they start with a convincing email, a plausible phone call, a fake invoice, or a request that seems entirely legitimate.

This free, non-technical webinar will help staff, volunteers, and trustees understand why community organizations are targeted and how to recognise the warning signs before fraud occurs. We’ll explore common threats including phishing, business email compromise, identity theft, invoice fraud, and social engineering, along with practical steps everyone can take to verify requests and reduce risk. The session will also examine how emerging technologies, including AI-generated content and deepfakes, are changing the fraud landscape.

What you will learn

  • Understand why community organizations are attractive targets and how staff, volunteers, partners, and beneficiaries create interconnected risk.
  • Recognise the information, assets, and access that fraudsters seek from community organizations.
  • Identify the warning signs of common frauds, including phishing, business email compromise, identity theft, invoice fraud, and AI-enabled scams.
  • Apply simple verification techniques and practical safeguards to help prevent fraud in everyday interactions.

No technical knowledge is required. The session focuses on practical awareness and everyday actions that everyone in an organisation can take to help prevent fraud.
