On December 9, Riga Technical University (RTU) announced the launch of their Google.org Cybersecurity Seminar program. Virtual Routes supports the implementation of the program.

The Cybersecurity Seminars program represents a forward-looking approach to education. It recognizes that tackling today’s cybersecurity challenges requires more than theoretical knowledge -  it demands practical, hands-on learning that bridges the gap between the classroom and the real world.

What makes the seminars program special is its focus on applying that learning directly with local community organizations. Students will not only develop skills but also use them to address concrete cybersecurity needs, creating an immediate and lasting impact.

According to Max Smeets, “What stood out from Riga Technical University’s cybersecurity seminar design was its focus on underserved regions, recruiting diverse student cohorts, and emphasizing equal opportunities for all. It is clear that this program ensures that no talent is overlooked, and no voice is left unheard.”

“RTU's vision of education is bold, but it is also necessary. As cyber threats evolve, so must our response. Programs like this one demonstrate how we can prepare the next generation of cybersecurity professionals to both think critically and act decisively,” Max added.
