Max Smeets delivers LABSCON keynote on ransomware: video now online

Max Smeets, Co-Director of Virtual Routes, recently delivered a keynote at LABSCON on his upcoming book, “Ransom War: How Cyber Crime Became a Threat to National Security.” We are excited to announce that the video of this insightful talk is now available online.

In his talk, Max delved into the “ransomware trust paradox,” a central theme in his book. This paradox highlights the contradictory nature of ransomware operations: despite their reliance on deceit to exploit victims, these groups must also foster a level of trust. Victims need to believe that paying the ransom will indeed lead to the restoration of their data and ensure that their data will not be published online.

LABSCON, hosted by SentinelOne, provides a unique platform for the world’s leading cybersecurity experts to converge, exchange pioneering research, and advance our collective understanding of the threat landscape. It is held annually in Scottsdale Arizona.
