Today marks an exciting development in the effort to improve global cybersecurity education: the Google.org Cybersecurity Seminar program has expanded its reach beyond Europe to include higher education institutions across the Middle East and Africa. With the addition of these regions, the program now supports a broader range of institutions in a wider set of regions, helping to support universities developing a new generation of cybersecurity professionals equipped to address complex and evolving threats.
The program, launched last year with an initial $15 million commitment from Google.org, is designed to support universities to give students greater access to cybersecurity education and career opportunities. With grant funding from Google.org, selected universities and higher education institutions will receive funding as well as educational resources and guidance from Virtual Routes to enhance their cybersecurity offerings. These resources help institutions teach a comprehensive range of subjects – from foundational concepts to advanced methods for addressing cyber threats – while emphasizing hands-on, real-world experience.
Each of these institutions has been carefully selected for their commitment to advancing cybersecurity education and community engagement. Together, they will support the development of 2,800 students and help protect over 3,500 local community organizations from cyber threats.
