Warsaw University of Technology builds upon the traditions of Polish technical universities that used to function in Warsaw – the Polytechnic Institute founded in 1826 thanks to the efforts of Stanisław Staszic and the School of Hipolit Wawelberg and Stanisław Rotwand established in 1895. Warsaw University of Technology started on its own in 1915 thanks to the efforts of the Association for Scientific Courses and the Citizens’ Committee of the City of Warsaw. Working uninterruptedly, the University has been producing generations of graduates and has had an increasing number of scientific and technical achievements. It is not only the oldest, but also the best technical university in Poland.

The primary goal of the Google Cybersecurity Seminars project, launched jointly by Warsaw University of Technology and Google.org, is to increase students’ cybersecurity skills, with a particular focus on the needs of underrepresented and marginalised groups.

The project includes the delivery of specialised courses for university students, but also further knowledge transfer – namely the delivery of a series of cybersecurity workshops for school students. These workshops will be delivered as part of the course participants’ digital competence development. In effect, it will be the WUT students who will impart key knowledge and skills to their younger counterparts to deal with various forms of cyber threats.

In this way, we want to ensure that the project also has a positive impact on the local community. This is important as teenagers and young adults have been identified as a group particularly vulnerable to cyber threats – such as hate speech, cyber aggression and various types of online fraud and abuse.

Building the digital resilience of this user group is a priority for all modern democracies. The partnership between the WUT and Google.org is part of this goal, supporting efforts to make cyberspace a safe and welcoming place for all.
