About the institution

Despite various attempts in previous years and centuries, Málaga had to wait until 1972 to see the founding of the University of Málaga, now one of the main engines of development in the Andalusian province. Its first faculty, the Faculty of Political, Economic, and Business Sciences, was created in 1963. Over its years of history, the university has offered a rich selection of academic programs and has con- tinually expanded its infrastructure across its two main campuses: the El Ejido campus and the Teati- nos campus, where most of its activities take place. The university’s administrative headquarters, lo- cated in the historic city center, is a symbolic building valued for both its institutional importance and artistic significance.

Two primary objectives of the University of Málaga are to provide “quality teaching” and to strengthen research and technological development. To achieve these goals, the institution implements policies and initiatives that promote academic and research excellence. The university offers students a range of official and proprietary courses: undergraduate courses (including seminars and specialization courses), “cyclical courses” (longer-term programs), and postgraduate courses. Sports and cultural activities complete the university’s extensive educational offerings.

About the program

The programme will provide cybersecurity training to students of computer science (ICT) and other disciplines (non ICT). They will use their skills to proactively defend against cyber threats and impact their local communities by working with NGOs or micro-enterprises, which are highly vulnerable institutions. During the course, we use a ‚train the trainer‘ programme for our students, who play a prominent role in subsequent activities. Outstanding activities are a. Development training for University of Malaga students enrolled in the Bachelor Cybersecurity and AI (BCAI). b. Development of two summer schools for students from some Spanish universities (ICT and non ICT). c. Liaise with the organisations and put the skills learnt into practice in the local community.

„This project is undoubtedly a proposal that involves working outside the box. It is a challenge for us and for the students involved. We are very excited about the opportunity to develop it, as the impact it will have on both the participants and the local community is sure to be very high. It will be a privilege to deliver it.“
